Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$75.729 billion in January through February 2002, the export volume reached US$40.840 billion and the import was US$34.889 billion, up by 8.8%, 14.1% and 3.2% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$39.446 billion, up by 11.4%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$20.766 billion, up by 14.6%, while the import reached US$18.68 billion, up by 8.0%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$2.088 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 6.4% and accounting for 11.2% of their total import volume.
