Statistics show that China's import & export totaled US$326.843 billion in January through July 2002, the export volume reached US$171.243 billion and the import was US$155.600 billion, up by 14.8%, 16.2% and 13.2% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$171.283 billion, up by 19%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$88.204 billion, up by 20.6%, while the import reached US$83.08 billion, up by 17.3%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$9.15 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 10.1% and accounting for 11% of their total import volume.
