Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$197.683 billion in January through May 2001, the export volume reached US$102.502 billion and the import was US$95.181 billion, up by 13.5%, 11.0% and 16.3% respectively over the same period in 2000.
The import & export of FIEs totaled US$100.446 billion, up by 16.86%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$51.273 billion, up by 19.53%, while the import reached US$49.174 billion, up by 14.2%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$5.896 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 24.26% and accounting for 11.99% of their total import volume.
