Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$32.457 billion in January 2001, the export volume reached US$16.916 billion and the import was US$15.541 billion, up by 1.3%, 0.8% and 1.9% respectively over the same period in 2000.
The import & export of FIEs totaled US$16.034 billion, up by 4.01%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$8.318 billion, up by 10.06%, while the import reached US$7.716 billion, down by 1.79%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$1.093 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 23.22% and accounting for 14.17% of their total import volume.
