Statistics show that China's import & export totaled US$383.489 billion in January through August 2002, the export volume reached US$200.694 billion and the import was US$182.795 billion, up by 16.05%, 17.50% and 14.50% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$200.734 billion, up by 20.50%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$103.132 billion, up by 21.82%, while the import reached US$97.602 billion, up by 19.13%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$10.761 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 10.45% and accounting for 11.03% of their total import volume.
