Statistics show that China's import & export totaled US$620.785 billion in January through December 2002, the export volume reached US$325.569 billion and the import was US$295.216 billion, up by 21.77%, 22.30% and 21.20% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$330.223 billion, up by 27.45%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$169.937 billion, up by 27.55%, while the import reached US$160.286 billion, up by 27.35%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$17.144 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 18.07% and accounting for 10.70% of their total import volume.
