Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$270.710 billion in January through June 2002, the export volume reached US$142.059 billion and the import was US$128.651 billion, up by 12.3%, 14.1% and 10.4% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$142.027 billion, up by 16%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$73.447 billion, up by 18.0%, while the import reached US$68.580 billion, up by 14.0%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$7.415 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 4.3% and accounting for 10.8% of their total import volume.
