Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$174.517 billion in January through April 2002, the export volume reached US$91.382 billion and the import was US$83.135 billion, up by 10.5%, 12.0% and 8.8% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$91.648 billion, up by 13.6%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$47.303 billion, up by 14.73%, while the import reached US$44.345 billion, up by 12.42%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$4.976 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 2.22% and accounting for 11.22% of their total import volume.
