Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$284.836 billion in January through July 2001, the export volume reached US$147.455 billion and the import was US$137.381 billion, up by 10.6%, 8.4% and 13.0% respectively over the same period in 2000. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$143.945 billion, up by 13.44%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$73.146 billion, up by 15.54%, while the import reached US$70.8 billion, up by 11.35%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$8.311 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 18.98% and accounting for 11.74% of their total import volume.
