Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$158.132 billion in January through April 2001, the export volume reached US$81.757 billion and the import was US$76.374 billion, up by 15.4%, 13.2% and 17.8% respectively over the same period in 2000. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$80.676 billion, up by 19.76%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$41.230 billion, up by 23.39%, while the import reached US$39.446 billion, up by 16.20%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$4.868 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 31.85% and accounting for 12.34% of their total import volume.
