Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$69.910 billion in January through February 2001, the export volume reached US$36.139 billion and the import was US$33.771 billion, up by 16.0%, 14.5% and 17.7% respectively over the same period in 2000. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$35.407 billion, up by 21.36%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$18.116 billion, up by 26.64%, while the import reached US$17.291 billion, up by 16.29%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$2.231 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 35.71% and accounting for 12.90% of their total import volume.
