Statistics show that China's import & export totaled US$445.135 billion in January through September 2002, the export volume reached US$232.564 billion and the import was US$212.572 billion, up by 18.3%, 19.4% and 17.2% respectively over the same period in 2001. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$233.885 billion, up by 23.3%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$119.881 billion, up by 23.9%, while the import reached US$114.004 billion, up by 22.6%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$12.435 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 12.6% and accounting for 10.9% of their total import volume.
