Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$113.814 billion in January through March 2001, the export volume reached US$59.274 billion and the import was US$54.540 billion, up by 15.9%, 14.7% and 17.3% respectively over the same period in 2000. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$58.111 billion, up by 21.00%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$29.875 billion, up by 25.10%, while the import reached US$28.236 billion, up by 16.9%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$3.553 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 36% and accounting for 12.58% of their total import volume.
