Statistics show that China's import and export totaled US$376.372 billion in January through September 2001, the export volume reached US$194.983 billion and the import was US$181.389 billion, up by 9.0%, 7.0% and 11.2% respectively over the same period in 2000. The import & export of FIEs totaled US$189.761 billion, up by 11.05%; the export volume of FIEs reached US$96.731 billion, up by 12.91%, while the import reached US$93.03 billion, up by 9.18%. Of the investment made by FIEs, US$11.035 billion went to the import of equipment for their own use, up by 18.01% and accounting for 11.86% of their total import volume.
