According to the statistics of news release of foreign investment, from January to December 2004, foreign-invested enterprises newly approved for establishment reached total number of 43664, a growth of 6.29% as compared with that of the same period last year; the contracted foreign investment reached USD153.479b, a growth of 33.38% as compared with that of the same period last year; and the actual use of foreign investment reached USD60.630b, a growth of 13.32%as compared with that of the same period last year.

In December, the foreign-invested enterprises newly approved for establishment reached total number of 4444 around the country, a decrease of 0.47% year on year; the contracted foreign investment reached USD 18.621 billion, a growth of 27.83% as compared with that of the same period last year; and the actual use of foreign investment reached USD 6.476 billion, an increase of 1.98% as compared with that of the same period last year.（In the data of FDI assimilation for the whole year of 2004, the data in insurance field is not included and data in banking and security fields are not complete. From January to December, from the ten Asian nations/regions(Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea), the number of newly established enterprises in China witnessed a growth of 5.73% as compared with that of the same period last year with contracted foreign investment and actual use of foreign investment increased by 24.26% and 9.98% respectively; From the US, the number of newly established enterprises in China witnessed a decrease of 3.33% as compared with that of the same period last year with the contracted foreign investment increased by 19.72% and actual use of foreign investment reduced 6.13 % respectively; And from Europe ,the number of newly established enterprises in China witnessed a growth of 16.83% year on year with contracted foreign investment increased by 42.83% and actual use of foreign investment increased by 7.86%. From part of the free ports, the number of newly established enterprises in China witnessed a growth of 18.05% as compared with that of the same period last year with contracted foreign investment and actual use of foreign investment increased by 52.77% and 29.80% respectively.

From January to December this year, the top ten nations and regions with investment in China (as per actual input of foreign capital) are as follows: Hong Kong (USD18.998 b), Virgin Island (USD6.730 b), South Korea (USD6.248b), Japan (USD5.452b), the US (USD3.941b), Taiwan Province (USD3.117b), Cayman (USD2.043b), Singapore (USD2.008b), West Samoa(USD1.129b) and Germany (USD1058m), total of which accounted for 83.66% of total actual use of foreign investment in the country.

By the end of December 2004, the accumulation of the established foreign-invested enterprises of the country reached the number of 508941 with contracted foreign investment of USD 1096.608billion and actual use of foreign investment of USD 562.101billion.
