Medical Appliance Magnate Smith &Nephew Invested in Suzhou Industrial Park

Smith&Nephew held foundation laying ceremony in Suzhou Industrial Park recently representing the establishment of its first factory in China. 

Founded in 1856 in Britain, Smith&Nephew has developed into a giant in medical and rehabilitation products.  It had set up offices in Beijing and Hong Kong but it was the first time for the company to set up a factory in China. 

According to resources from the company, the first phase of the project will involve an investment of 80 million dollars, main product of which will be medical appliances that will be sold in 65 countries all over the world . 

Superintendent of the company expressed that they chose Suzhou Industrial Park as the location for the factory was because it met all requirements of the company. He also said that the company had inspected many countries for an idea location since the beginning of last year and after inspecting environment of Suzhou Industrial Park, management of the company made the decision to build the factory here at once. 

During the inspection, the park provided favorable services to the company finishing all examination and approval procedures within very short time, which satisfied the management of the company who expressed that Suzhou Industrial Park has top-notch environment and infrastructure and atmosphere of business and enterprise which has appeal for the company . 

It was reported that to date many foreign medical companies have entered the industrial park including Glaxo Smith Kline, Lilly, Eisai, Baxter, Herbalife and Johnson&Johnson with a total investment of over 1 billion dollars. Almost all medical products now could be produced in the park from disposable syringe, gelatine capsule, reagent to medical testing equipment, computer controlled X-ray equipment and all kinds of medicines.
