After over 20 years' development, ETDZs in Shanghai has accounted for over half of the total industrial output value of the whole city . It was learned from the Second General Meeting of Shanghai ETDZs that the 41 ETDZs in the city realized a gross industrial output value of 1185.3 billion Yuan in 2007 accounting for 51% of the total volume of the city .The output value of Songjiang , Jinqiao and Caohejing ETDZ   exceeded 100 billion Yuan .  The average land output stood at 5.8 billion Yuan ,which was 2.5 times as high as the average level of the whole city . 65% of industrial enterprises have concentrated in industrial parks of municipal level and the six key industrial bases while 88% of the major enterprises have concentrated in ETDZs . 

Some characteristic industrial parks and clusters of distinctive features , strong supporting capacity , high industrial concentration and completed industrial chains are forming in these ETDZs . Four key industrial bases have been built ,namely electronic information, automobile, chemical engineering and refined steel while new bases in the adjacent area of the harbor and Changxing Island and that focusing on aircraft and spaceflight are under construction .  Meanwhile , service industry supporting manufacturing is also developing .
