According to the authority of Kunshan ETDZ ,the zone has been listed as national pilot area of intellectual property by the State Intellectual Property Office , becoming the third pilot  area in Jiangsu Province after Suzhou Industrial Park and  Suzhou High and New Technological Zone  . 

In recent years, Kunshan ETDZ has been constantly establishing and optimizing its intellectual property excitation mechanism  , guiding enterprises to strengthen independent innovation and build their own brands .  A series of measures were adopted in the ETDZ including the establishing dedicated department , issuing the Proposed Regulation on Strengthening Intellectual Property Protection in Kunshan ETDZ  ,  setting up the award for contribution of intellectual property, opening a service hotline , assisting enterprises in declaration of scientific and technological achievements and products validation , all these has effectively promoted the innovation , supervision , protection and implementation of intellectual properties .

The sound IPR environment greatly spurred the enterprises' enthusiasm of innovation .To date , many foreign-invested companies have set up R&D institutions in the zone  .  NSK , a Japanese company engaging in production of bearings established China technical center  which is also its  headquarters in Asia Pacific region  and Avery( China) Co. Ltd , an American company producing gummed paper , established Asia Pacific R&D Center in the zone last year . Up to now , 183 R&D centers , engineering centers and designing centers have set up in the zone . 

Based on the strong R&D capacity , patent applications increased by 200％ in the past 2 years .  The applications for patent of invention accounted for 50% of the total number of Kunshan City .  Thanks to the push of the ETDZ, many patents are being transforming into productivity.  A great many of enterprises have had products of own intellectual property such as Longteng 14.5-inch notebook LCD panel , Huangheng Automatic Welding ,Giant Bicycle,Sukura CABINET and Kunda GPS Avigraph . 

Authority of the Management Committee of the zone expressed that the zone will make full use of the status of national pilot area to further support and drive the development of the core industrial competitiveness .  Enhance management of intellectual property, bringing it into the overall development plan , and at the same time , highlighting  the vital function of intellectual property system  in promoting system innovation and technological innovation of the zone , aiming at making new stride at a higher level .
