The influence of Hunan’s cultural industry has increased. Hunan ranked 7 nationwide on the list of the “China’s Cultural Industry Development Index for Provinces and Cities (2017)” issued by Renmin University of China, ranking first in central and western China.

In 2017, the annual gross value of cartoon games and related businesses in the province reached 27.5 billion CNY. In 2017, the number of cultural enterprises above designated size in Hunan exceeded 3,100, and the market entities in cultural sector further expanded.
In 2017, the imports and exports of Hunan's cultural trade totaled 2.292 billion USD, an increase of 73% over the same period of the previous year. Of the total, exports amounted to 2.252 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 71.5%. The total trade volume and growth rate both hit record high. The China South Publishing & Media Group (CNS) and other nine enterprises and two projects including “Songdan Chinese Character Art Exhibition of 100 Overseas Cities” were selected as “2017-2018 Key National Cultural Export Enterprises and Key Projects”.
