On March 20-21, 2017, the 1st Meeting of Trade and Economic Liaison Group for BRICS Chinese Year (the 14th meeting in total) was held in Beijing. Attending were delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, the WTO, the UNCTAD ( the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), the UNIDO ( the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the International Trade Center, and the BRICS Business Council. The meeting touched on issues concerning trade facilitation, investment facilitation, trade in service, e-commerce, IPR protection, economic and technological cooperation and support for the multilateral trading system, and positive progress has been made.
In 2017, China will be the rotating presidency for BRICS and host the 9th BRICS Summit in the city of Xiamen in September. To make trade and economic preparation, China is to hold the 7th BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Shanghai in July and three trade and economic liaison group meetings before September.
