Government officials and businessmen from China and 11 central and eastern European countries gathered in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, on Wednesday with the aim of promoting cooperation in agriculture.
Speaking at the 8th Agro Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum between China and Central Eastern European Countries, Chinese vice minister of agriculture Niu Dun said China and central and eastern Europe are major partners to each other, with enormous potential and bright prospects for agricultural cooperation.
"As long as the two sides maintain confidence and keep to the keynote of friendly relations and cooperation, vigorous and mutually-beneficial development in agricultural cooperation is bound to be achieved," said Niu.
After extending his warm welcome to the attendees, Liang Weiguo, vice governor of Anhui province, said the province has been increasing exchanges and promoting cooperation with central and eastern European countries in agriculture.
The forum provided a hard-won opportunity to the province's agricultural sector, which has entered into partnership with 14 central and eastern European countries, according to the governor.
The central and eastern European delegates pledged to conduct in-depth exchanges with Chinese counterparts at the forum to seek new opportunities, areas and mechanisms for further cooperation.
