wif 2010 opened in xiamen on the morning of september 7th. china’s vice president xi jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

the secretary-general of the united nations conference on trade and development (unctad), supachai panitchpakdi, officiated the opening ceremony. he stated that this biennial forum provides a unique exchange platform for investors all over the world. today more than 1000 representatives from 116 countries attended the forum, which shows the great importance of investment and trade. he also extends his thanks on behalf of unctad to the organizers for the serial events they collaborate with, the ministry of commerce, fujian province and xiamen city for their support. at last, he offered his best wishes for the great success of wit and the 14th cifit.

the secretary-general of the united nations ban ki-moon gave a video speech for the ceremony. he says that international investment, as an important topic of global policymaking, will recover gradually and the global economy will get better in 2011-2012 as forecasted by the un. at present, the global economy has four characteristics: weakness in economic recovery with great potential of non-government investment, more emphasis on the use of energy due to the climate change, great determination to ensure the realization of the un millennium development goal and great importance of non-government investment in global investment and trade, he adds. he also hopes different countries can strength the cooperation and make great efforts to realize these goals.

iceland president anders fogh rasmussen and prime minister of mozambique, aires, ali also addressed the opening ceremony.
